Grocery Shop for Homebound Seniors in Beaverton (PSU Serve Your City: Short)

Do you like to grocery shop? Are you passionate about helping seniors and people with disabilities maintain their independence? Join us to grocery shop for those who are homebound. Think of it as a fun in-store scavenger hunt for a great cause!

The Student Community Engagement Center is excited to support the work of Store to Door through grocery shopping at one of Store to Door's Beaverton shopping shifts.

Volunteer grocery shoppers receive a client’s grocery list and walk around the store finding each item during this morning volunteer shift. At times, you may need to call a client to ask clarifying questions about out-of-stock grocery items or substitutions. As a volunteer shoppers, you are not responsible for purchasing or delivering groceries, just shopping the aisles for our clients and having fun!

When: Wednesday, Beaverton Town Square Fred Meyer, from 8:00 - 10:00am (Look for your PSU lead, Emily, so you can connect with the PSU group and then get oriented along with the rest of the Store to Door volunteers). 

Where: We will meet at the Beaverton Town Square Fred Meyer, which is where Store to Door's grocery shopping shifts take place. The Beaverton Town Square Fred Meyer is accessible from campus via bus lines 54 and 58 (~35 minutes).

Requirements: This is an in-person volunteer opportunity. After signing up through GivePulse, you will be sent a link for how to get signed up and oriented to Store to Door prior to your shift.

Position Requirements:

  • Able to stand or walk for up to 2 hours
  • Able to lift up to 20 lbs.
First time volunteers for Store to Door grocery shopping will receive a link to the organization's training video and will also be given in-store training. Once you sign up for the event in GivePulse, we will send you a link for how to get connected within Store to Door's system and access the training.

About our Community Partner: 

Store to Door is a local nonprofit that supports independent living for Portland area seniors and people with disabilities by providing an affordable, personal, volunteer-based grocery shopping and delivery service.



This project is open to all Portland State University students through the Student Community Engagement Center's #serveyourcityserveyourcampus program. 
The Student Community Engagement Center's mission is to provide robust and varied co-curricular opportunities for all students at Portland State to engage with the community and become catalysts for change.
