Portland State University

Welcome to Portland State University's hub for finding volunteer opportunities with campus and community partners. Powered by Give Pulse, this platform makes PSU's motto of “Let Knowledge Serve the City” easily accessible for students, staff, faculty, and community partners. Whether you are looking for a one-time or ongoing service project, or are involved in a Community-Based Learning class, Give Pulse can help you get connected to meaningful projects.

For Students:

The Student Community Engagement Center (SCEC) is your go-to resource for co-curricular student civic engagement at Portland State University -- in other words, serving in the community outside of your classes! From one-time service projects (working in gardens and parks, sorting donations, sprucing up community spaces, and more) to longer-term opportunities (mentoring elementary school kids, participating in an Alternative Spring Break service trip, or becoming a Student Leader for Service), get involved in the way that meets your schedule and interests! Visit the Student Community Engagement Center subgroup to learn more about our opportunities.

In addition to SCEC-sponsored service projects, you can also browse through a variety of other opportunities hosted by our community partners by visiting the PSU GivePulse Opportunity Search Page.

For questions, contact the Student Community Engagement Center: volunteer@pdx.edu or 503-725-8132

COVID-19 Update: Search GivePulse for ways to support your community during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Looking for a way to directly impact your community through addressing COVID-19-related causes? Or hoping to find a virtual volunteer opportunity you can do from your home bubble? When you search for an opportunity:

  • Select the new "Emergencies" tab to help filter opportunities that are related to COVID-19 support
  • Select the "Virtual/Remote" tab to find opportunities that can be done remotely
  • Use the keywords "COVID-19," "virtual," or "remote" in your search box
***Note: Most of the opportunities below are not PSU-coordinated or affiliated ways to get involved in your community. Please use your judgement in considering which opportunities are appropriate for you and consult the CDC guidelines before you choose to volunteer in order to protect yourself and the community. While many organizations will do everything they can to ensure your safety, this is an emergency response to a national crisis and many opportunities are being organized by your fellow community members - you will be volunteering at your own risk and not under the recommendation or endorsement of PSU.

For Partners:

To learn more about partnership opportunities with PSU, please visit the PSU Engagement and Partnerships page. To learn how to affiliate with PSU on GivePulse and post volunteer opportunities, email volunteer@pdx.edu

For Faculty:

If you are a faculty member looking for resources on connecting your course to the community, or are interested in using the GivePulse platform to manage community-based learning in your courses, please contact the Office of Academic Innovation to ask who to connect with while their Teaching, Learning, and Engagement Associate position is vacant.
