About

Family and Children’s Services provide family support education and services to strengthen families, empower parents or caregivers, and build happy, nurtured children. The services available are:


Supporting Dads - Fathers of children ages 0-17  A free, group-based, 12-week class for fathers who want to become more active, engaged dads. Classes include what it means to be a man, productive communication, discipline techniques, managing emotions, case management, and basic needs assistance for baby. English and Spanish sessions available. All fathers who are expecting or parenting a child 0-17 years of age are eligible.


Family Connects- Moms who have given birth at Children's Hospital of San Antonio - A free community-wide nurse home visiting program for parents of newborns. A registered nurse provides up to two home visit to each enrolled family and offers supportive guidance of newborn care and postpartum care with resources and referrals. Additional assistance provided through parenting education, counseling, financial assistance, and more. English and Spanish sessions available.


Parents as Teachers (HOPES) - Parents & caregivers with children prenatal to 3 years - A free program that provides long-term, home-based parenting education for parents and caregivers who are expecting or have at least one child in the house under the age of 3 years, to increase parent knowledge in those critical first five years of development and to promote school-readiness.


To Become a Volunteer-

STEP ONE: Volunteer Application 

  • Click on the "Join" button above to gain access to the volunteer application.

STEP TWO: Criminal Background Check & Online Training Modules

(All volunteers 18 years and older must complete three (3) online training modules as mandated by the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc.)

  • Create an account on Virtus https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/index.cfm
  • Make sure to enter the last 4 of your social security number.
  • Please select YES when asked if you will be working with Vulnerable Adults & Children.

STEP THREE: Volunteer Confirmation

  • Once you have completed all the requirements, you will receive confirmation that you are approved to volunteer and register for volunteer opportunities posted on the Give Pulse site.

Hello I can Volunteer as a Foster Grandparent around the airport area in San Antonio .. I can volunteer on Saturdays 8am to 4pm = 8hrs .....5 miles radius All around my house...... In Zip codes near the San Antonio Airport areas.....78232, 78247, 78216, 78217, Can also go to 78233, 78258, 78259........I also have a room at my house full of toys for all ages all new unused; If they ever need a place to play or get away. I will help in anyway. I love helping children. I have raised 2 children of my own, that are now grown and on their own.
I have an adopted daughter that is barely 18 and has a one year old son that we need to prepare for. She left an abusive home with biological mother and step father and they have been attempting to threaten her into giving up custody of her son so they can receive state benefits and such .
