The Student Community Engagement Center is the hub for student civic engagement outside the classroom at Portland State University.
Through meaningful service opportunities ranging from one-day service events to year-long service commitments, we strive to provide robust and varied co-curricular opportunities for all students at Portland State to engage with the community and become catalysts for change.

Sign up for a Serve Your City: Short or Service Your City: Series volunteer project that matches your interest & availability -- from one-time events to recurring opportunities to serve at the same organization each term. These projects are coordinated by the Student Community Engagement Center in partnership with some of our favorite community partners and supported by engaged student leaders. Whether on or off campus, get involved in the community, one service project at a time!
A couple times per term, join us for one of our larger Annual Events & Collaborations, from our Viking Day of Service and Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week in Fall term, Bloodworks Blood Drive and Social Impact Mixer in Winter term, and Earth Day of Service and Alder College Day in Spring.
You can also browse through a variety of external volunteer opportunities hosted by our community partners and support organizations across the Portland region.
Interested in stepping up to make a longer-term commitment?
Student Leaders for Service (SLS) is a year-long program that promotes a culture of community engagement on the PSU campus. SLS members serve weekly with a community partner, participate in Friday leadership classes, facilitate group service projects, and help promote a culture of community engagement at PSU. Each SLS member is responsible for serving 4-6 hours/week for the entire academic year at a community organization.
MAPS Eco-Explorers: Love working with kids? Enjoy gardens and hands-on education? Become a MAPS "Eco Explorers" Mentor! Help us run a bilingual “Eco Explorers” after-school garden club at Alder Elementary to support students' learning through garden, STEM, and other hands-on activities.
