It was so much fun volunteering for this Earth Day event! We were able to help out staff at J.O Kelly put together a garden for students and faculty. We cleaned up the area, painted garden boxes and a mural, and actually got to plant the garden boxes.

I found this event on givepulse and I decided it would be the perfect way to get my service hours! I went to J.O. Kelly Middle School with an AOII friend and we ended up meeting an alumna there. We picked weeds, raked garden beds and laid down mulch. It was a beautiful day and a great opportunity.

Volunteering at the J.O. Kelly Middle School was a great experience for me because I got to meet new people while also helping the community. We pulled weeds, mulched, planted seeds, and painted a mural between the vegetable gardens. I am so grateful for this experience and I would like to volunteer for more outdoor maintenance activities in the future!

It was a very nice experience. As someone who loves the earth I thought it was a nice gesture for the u of a to create an opportunity to help the planet back. Absolutely enjoyed coming. I wish I would have stayed longer, but I don’t think there was much left for me to do.
