About
Looking to meet other PSU students, get outside, and make a difference on campus and in the greater community through volunteering?
Join PSU’s Student Community Engagement Center and Student Sustainability Center for Viking Day of Service on Saturday, October 3, 2026!
We will come together for a few hours of service, connection, and snacks, as we spread out to support a couple different service projects while getting to know one another!
- Project 1: Downtown Litter Clean-Up with SOLVE. Don a reflective vest, grab a trash bag and trash picker, and get ready to help clean-up the downtown areas neighboring our campus! Help keep our public spaces clean, enjoy some time outside, get to know downtown, and do something to support the city that PSU calls home. Many hands make light work! Volunteers will check-in, get oriented in small teams, grab gear, and then spread out in small pods into the nearby streets. After picking up litter in our designated areas while connecting to downtown’s many offerings, we will reconvene on campus for a post-project wrap-up. (40 slots; outdoor, active project; wheelchair accessible options for clean-up route)
- Project 2: Dig in to PSU’s Campus Gardens! Join a volunteer project supporting native pollinator habitat and campus beautification! Help the Student Sustainability Center plant over 60 native flowers and shrubs, received through the Xerces Habitat Kit Program! Activities involve hands-on physical labor rain or shine, including weeding, hauling materials, digging, and working on knees/close to ground. (25 slots; outdoor, active project on uneven surfaces).
You will be able to indicate your preference of project at registration and will be confirmed based on space availability. All volunteers will meet on campus at Montgomery Plaza (at SW Montgomery and SW Broadway) to check in, meet your project groups, and get oriented to the morning's service. Groups will head out to their specific projects and then reconvene in the park blocks at the end for a post-project debrief, closing reflection, and snacks.
What to bring:
- For both outdoor projects, we recommend comfortable close-toed shoes and pants. Dress for the weather.
- If you bring personal belongings please bring a backpack so you can pick up trash hands-free
- We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle as well.
- Bring your PSU student ID to access campus restrooms and buildings
